Quotes from Medical Professionals, who have Immigrated to St. Anthony

"It is a beautiful part of the world. There is a certain romance to living in a sturdy little house on top of a hill; at the northern tip of one of the oldest rocks on earth, and one of the most beautiful ones, with a thousand miles of wide open North Atlantic at your back.. It is a very welcoming place; people are very friendly.. The community welcomes newcomers with open arms"..

"I was attracted first to Newfoundland because I've got some friends who came to work here originally; and they told me the place was really beautiful and it's a nice place to work. Basically I was working in the UK and I was tired of living in London itself because it was very crowded, and so I came to St. Anthony for a visit to see the place and I fell in love with it, so I decided to come and work here.. I've been working here for 5 years now.. The advantages here are that the community is small, there are a lot of interpersonal interactions; people are very friendly to each other and they try to help as much as they can in lots of ways.. St. Anthony in itself is a very beautiful place. I fell in love with it when I first came here.. I think there is something about waking up in the morning and seeing mountains and the sea around us.. It is very peaceful.. There is not a lot of pollution here.. We don't have a lot of traffic.. I think thre are a lot of facilities in this area for people.. We have skiiing in the winter, you can go snowshoeing, skidooing, or ice fishing.. In the summer, there is kayaking, or going on boat trips; also fishing, hiking, and people here don't realize how lucky they are.. In Europe or in the UK for example, living in a place like this would be very costly; one wouldn't even be able to afford housing in a place that is as beautiful as this.. So I think the lifestyle is very nice, and it is what really attracted me here in the first place.. When I first came, I was accepted as part of the community.. I didn't feel as if I was an outsider.. I felt at-home here, and didnt' feel as if I left another country and came here.. I just felt as if I belong.. They always try to help you as much as they can, if you ask for help.. I have made many good friends here.. I know they are people I can call on, if I need anything at any time.. Although, it seems as if it is a very small place, I think you would be really surprised when you get here... The other think I would say is that if anyone is interested; and is hesitant about coming; they should come and visit St. Anthony and the surrounding areas and they will be blown away"..

"The advantages of living in a rural area is that you get fresh air.. You get to see natural beauty.. You can do lots of sports in winter like skidoo driving, skiing.. In the summer time, you could go fishing on a boat ride in the Atlantic Ocean; or you could even go and watch whales and dolphins.. So there is nothing which can compare to the beauty of a rural area from an urban setting.. St. Anthony is a small community where everybody knows everyone.. Very friendly community, people help each other very much.. One more thing is that St. Anthony is so close to the Atlantic Ocean; that it really has a lot of natural beauty.. It's got hills for skiing, walking in trails, or you can always go and watch whales.. You may even spot a polar bear.. We spend our leisure time, depending on the season.. In the winter time, I generally take my son down for skating.. This is a sport that he has learned recently here in Canada.. I might give it a try later on.. In the summer you have a bright sun.. You have the cool ocean near you.. We go to a nice place called Fishing Point.. We like it there, very much... They have a nice restaurant, where they serve seafood.. This is a very safe place to raise a family.. I can let my kid walk out and play and I don't have to worry about him at all.. It is a simple lifestyle of hard working people.. People like to do here a lot of outdoor activities, so it is basically an outdoor lifestyle, whether it is summer or winter.."
